Lots o' Work!

Tomorrow night is my annual Evening of Art at school. This consists of choosing, mating, labeling, and hanging one artwork for each of my students. No big deal, right? Mwahaha...

First of all let me remind you that I teach middle school, which means I only see kids once a week. This means I have over 400 students.

So Phase One is having the little darling choose which ONE artwork they want to hang. 400 kids times 5 projects a year- that's some 2,000 projects to lay out and sort through. Tired yet? Oh just wait.

Phase Two is mounting each of those artworks on a colored piece of paper so that is looks nice. 4 pieces of tape to mount each image times 400... that's a whole lotta tape. Included in the step is 2A) filling out the labels.

Next I flip each piece over, roll 4 more pieces of tape, and stick some lamination paper to the back. This is so when I hot glue them to the walls I don't ruin the art. Also, it makes for taking down way easier.

The next part is hanging. When I say I fill the hallways, I mean I FILL the hallways!

Oh, and did I mention in the middle of all of this I have been firing the 6th graders clay pieces? Lets not go into the tedious details of loading and unloading the kiln. Each load takes about 24 solid hours!!!

But just LOOK at all of the cool things my students can do:

Tomorrow night is our open house, and I can promise you 45 minutes after I'm done I will be showered, in pj's and enjoying a big ol' glass of wine! That's some SERIOUS work, ya'll!
