Channeling Tarzan

Last weekend my whole family was here visiting for the Labor Day weekend. It was awesome to have everyone here. Since it was Laura’s first visit to Arkansas we pretty much ran her everywhere! We started with a bike ride all over Bentonville. We went down the trail to see the museum, by our lot, and we enjoyed some fresh delicious crepes at the Farmers Market.

They were very excited to go zip lining. Dave and I had been to this place before, but there had been several changes to the course… PLUS we were the ONLY people in our tour which was amazing.

After that we were pros! We were able to relax, joke around with our tour guides, and just enjoy the day and each other.

Dave usually went off backwards. Steven started trying some dance moves mid-air. Laura tried to see how many times she could spin in a circle.

The views were so pretty and the weather couldn’t have been better!

This is the tree we had to rappel from last year when Dave and I went. That was the only time I was a little nervous, and I had totally been prying myself up to do it again and I was excited this time! However, you can see how the tree is dying and they didn’t think it was safe to use anymore so they built a lovely ramp on the ground which you zip to.

After that fun was done we decided to show Steven and Laura the Lost Valley cave. Dave and I had actually gone to this cave 10 years ago- in fact EXACTLY 10 years ago was our first date to this cave!

We hiked the mile to the cave in record time.

Since this hike was totally impromptu we didn’t really have the right equipment with us.   To get into the best part of the cave we had to crawl on our bellies for about 20 yards. We were using our iPhone flashlights to help us- ha! When people asked us if he had or needed a flashlight Dave told them we were “urban spelunkers!” So witty. Once we got past that daunting 20 yards the cave opens into a huge cylindrical cavern with a 35 foot waterfall (not like a Niagara Falls waterfall, more of a gentle trickle- but still cool).

After that we booked it back to the car since it was getting dark and we had no cell phone service- yikes!

Did I mention that this was all in one day? We were exhausted! We relaxed on our drive home and enjoyed the views.

Thank you so much to my parents who babysit during our afternoon adventures! They had big adventures of their own:

It was so wonderful to spend so much time with my family. Dave and I super appreciate all of you taking time from your busy lives to drive down and stay with us!
