We mixed up a cake when we got home and Will helped with the mixer. I thought he would go crazy during the decorating part but he only did about 6 shakes of sprinkles. "That's it?" I asked. "There," he said doing one more shake. Hm.
When I told him it was time to give Daddy his gift we went to get it out of the car. I whispered to him to take it to Daddy and tell him "Happy Birthday!" Will handed the bag to Dave, grinning from ear to ear, and said, "Happy Birthday! It's a shirt!" Ha!
We celebrated with Dave's parents at their house on Tuesday night. My mother in law ordered a birthday cake from the grocery store that normally does a fantastic job with cakes. She requested "fall colors." When she picked it up- this horrendous mess is what she saw:
She was pretty horrified by the sight and had another cake made (she said the lady seemed to expect the re-do was coming... how could you NOT?) This cake is truly a testament to why art education is important.
It was a pretty mellow celebration but it was wonderful to have a day to tell Dave how much we love him and appreciate all that he does for us. Love you, honey!
