A Weekend Away

Two weekends ago we decided to get away. I mean AWAY. No people, no cell phones, please. We did this a few years ago, before Will was born. We knew someone who had a cabin in the middle of nowhere and we went for a great weekend retreat. We found a different cabin in southern Missouri and packed up the kids and went. This cabin was set on 77 acres and the weather was crisp but pleasant while we explored those 77 acres. We first went to the creek because Will really wanted to use his bucket. I climbed a tree. Yes I did. I thouroughly enjoyed it, too. It may be the last time I ever do it so I soaked it in. Some pictures of Will from my perch: Then we caught up with Dave who was walking around with E and we found a place to fish.

Then we hiked and found a little playset with a stream running right by it. There was this big "waterfall" going down the dam. We relaxed in some lawn chairs and soaked up the peace, quiet, and sunshine. We then took a hike through the woods, walked along a different lake spotting turtles, and let Will throw a bunch of rocks. Later that night we made s'mores and I got to finish a book (my most favorite quiet time). Despite the heater going out in the middle of the night it was a PERFECT get away. Will could run to his heart's content and Dave and I were able to unplug and focus on our family. The landscape was beautiful and we hope to head back again!
